How many people does it take…

As the year comes to an end, we begin to look forward to the New Year with anticipation, excitement and hope for greater things. I heard a lady exclaim yesterday that looking ahead was a good thing but, let’s not forget that THIS year isn’t over yet. Today is December 28th. There are still 3 days left for THIS year. I didn’t realize it but, once we hit Christmas Day, time seems to stand still until New Year’s Day. It does that because that’s where our focus is. It’s crazy because I’m listening on a prayer line call and the intercessors have even ‘given up’ on this year. Their prayers are as if we are already in the New Year. When I was in high school, I ran track. If I only took one thing away from that experience, it would be… no matter what place you’re in… finish strong. So, why not finish strong?

My question today is…
How many people does it take to change the world?

Yesterday, after responding to my friend’s email, I felt the need to write about taking care of your body. After that, the day blossomed like an atomic bomb!!! Not only have people been responding to the letter but there has been a flood of interest in how we are managing our weight, getting rid of weight and earning our extra income. The interest was expected but not to this level!!!!

{Pause for Commercial}If  you’re interested in finding out more please visit our website – http://chosen2k7.bodybyvi.com/ (I know. Shameless plug… Lol)

I posted a before & after picture of my wife and we’ve been blown away! The statement that my wife made last night was, “Wow! I’ve never seen this much interest in me. I’ve never received this many ‘likes’. I can’t believe it!!” Then after studying her picture… she just kept saying, “Is that really me?”, “Was I really THAT fat?” and “How could I have gotten that big?”

The thing that’s interesting to me is that we are ALL looking for that special something to believe in. Unfortunately, we have a Missouri state of mind… we want to be shown. It’s one thing to tell someone that a thing is this way or that way. But, it’s something completely different to actually have that visual experience. There is more power in that than we recognize and give power to.

When I originally thought about the subject of this letter, I was thinking about all the notable figures in history, how their efforts have contributed to the world in which we live and how our world would be different if their contributions were missing. But, sometimes we need to skip all of the philosophy and keep the message simple. As writers, and smart people, we can dazzle you with our word usage, research and references. But, it doesn’t really matter if the message doesn’t really hit home.

Today’s message is super simple. After writing one letter and sharing a couple of pictures, the lives of countless others have been affected and changed. Because of the change that these people are making, countless others will be changed and this cycle will continue on and on…

How many people does it take to change the world? I don’t know but we can only change it one person at a time.

Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. The only promise that we have is the here and now. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is a mystery… Live your lives for today with no regrets. Love each other. Help each other. You will be surprised by what comes back to you…

Let’s finish this year out strong!!!!

I love you ALL!!!
Stay blessed,
Jackie

Merry Christmas!!!!

It’s 2:00 am on December 26th. I’ve missed writing my daily letter because I made a conscious decision that I wasn’t going to do anything on Christmas Day. Well, isn’t that special (in my “church lady voice”)…

Christmas Day was very interesting. When I was coming up, my brother and I were the first people to get up on Christmas morning, no matter what. This was the one day a year that my parents did not have to pry us out of bed and more importantly how early we woke-up was never an issue, to us. MY children, on the other hand, are a completely different story.

One thing that I learned from my parents was that between Thanksgiving and Christmas you MUST be on your BEST behavior. I mean, clean as a whistle, spot on, no complaints, everything is alright… he’s a “good boy” time. The reason for this super child behavior was that I didn’t want to jack up my Christmas. I wanted to make sure that I received every gift that was coming to me because I knew that mommy and daddy are CRAZY!!! These people would really give me nothing for Christmas if I messed up and I knew it. And they knew that I knew it…

Well, my boys haven’t learned how crazy their parents are yet. These dudes have been cuttin’ up SINCE Thanksgiving. I’ve had to stop by the school. I’ve had to take away TV and video game privileges. One of them lost their iPod (btw, this wasn’t an old iPod it was a 4G). They haven’t been doing their chores. They have even been asked if they needed “help” (family and friends know about “help” – I may write about it one day). They seem to have just gone on strike as MY children!! They even got in trouble on Christmas Eve! My wife and I threatened them, like we were, with the whole “I’m gettin’ nuttin’ for Christmas” thing but these guys just roll on like a freight train.

Christmas morning arrives. As always, I’m the first to get up. My wife was glued to the bed because she had been up half the night wrapping gifts while I slept like a brick. The boys were still sleeping, as well! Wow, this is special. I can’t believe this and it’s already 7 o’clock. Now, it’s 8. Here comes 9 and my youngest goes to the bathroom. Finally, someone else is up other than me!!! I wake my wife and tell her it’s time to get up, I hear someone in the bathroom. She says okay and turns back over!! I meet my son as he comes out and tell him, “Let’s go wake your brother. Somebody came last night”. Of course, every child in the world knows who that somebody is… every child, except my son. His response was a sincere, “who?”

At this moment, I realized that my little one was a true believer. In his heart of hearts, he already knew that he wasn’t getting anything for Christmas. So, what’s the purpose of getting up. Today was just another day. Any desires to get stuff had been washed away because he knew that he and his brother had blown it.

I said, “Santa. Santa came last night!!”. There was a momentary pause for this Santa person to sink in and then… POW!!!! The excitement erupted out of him. He starts running in circles and dancing. It was like the fireworks were set off and “Ode to Joy” had started playing the background! This was what I was expecting on Christmas morning! Now, let’s go wake up your brother! We tickle him out of the bed with him screaming, “Uncle, Uncle”. Everybody go brush your teeth and we’ll see what Santa has brought!!

I forgot one little detail, my wife. She was still in the bed and she wasn’t trying to get up. She was understandably tired but the boys are up!! Once the boys are up, we all have to wake up (forget the fact that I ‘encouraged’ them to get up). Of course, she is on super slo-mo, no urgency, leave me alone mode. Now, the excitement is muted because we have to wait for mommy. So, I did what I knew was best. I sent my 7 year old to get her. He’s knocking on the bedroom door and every time he knocks I say, “I don’t think she heard you”. So, he knocks harder and harder until he’s banging on the door like the police. That 5 minutes it took for her to come out of the room was like an eternity!!! But she finally did and the boys were happy.

Our gift exchange was good. The children were happy and that’s what matters. Now, let’s see how long they’ll keep their toys this year…

Merry Christmas!!!!

I love you ALL!!!
Stay blessed,
Jackie
