Contact lists…

How many of us remember back in the day when your contact list could be written in a ‘little black book’ that fit in your back pocket and was no bigger than a wallet? Times have surely changed!!! Now, something as simple as sending out a mailer to all of your contacts is compared to climbing Mt. Everest!!!

I decided that I was going to send out an email blast to all of my contacts regarding my business. But, as I started looking at the list, I realized that, “Oh, these people are different from those people”. Then when I went to the ‘those people’ list, I realized that yet another list contains different people. The crazy part is that when I look at my iPhone/iPad contacts, everybody is all together!!! I’m walking thru “contact list hell”!!! So, I am combining my 3 Apple, 5 Gmail, YahooAOLHotmail, LinkedInFacebook, and Twitter contacts all into Plaxo!!

The funny thing is that once I get all of my contacts into one place then, I still have to move them into yet another program to send out the email. What I figured would be a simple 15 minute process, the longest part being the actual email, has turned into a project… Somebody needs to pray for ME!!!

I love you ALL!!!
Stay Blessed,

Social media in the eyes of an insomniac…

The problem with being an early riser is waking up early. Today, I woke up around 2:00am. This is worse than my usual early ups at 4:00am. Since, I was up, but wanted to go back to sleep, I just laid there hoping and praying that if I kept my eyes closed long enough that I’d just go back to sleep. Well, this didn’t work. So, like any other insomniac, I grabbed my phone and started looking at the various posts on social media.

If you didn’t already know, I’ve been a member of almost every source of social media since inception. So, I have a good 20-30 accounts out there, which I only use 5 or 6. So, Mr. Sleep-Deprived decides to start reviews posts. All I can say at this moment is that I “Follow” some very intriguing people and looking at the differences of how/what people post on the various platforms is interesting to me.

I started in Google+, then went to Facebook, then to Instagram, to Twitter, and finally to Pinterest. I started to go into Socialcam and YouTube but these require sound and I didn’t want to wake the rest of the house with my laughter. But here’s my take on these forums…

I love Facebook but it seems that the larger they get the more regulated they are becoming. I’ve been blocked from sending invitations to my events and they (Facebook) haven’t told me why. But, that’s just one issue. What I like about them is that they are big. Most people have a Facebook account, even if they don’t use it. So, connecting with people here is really easy.

In my humble opinion, Google+ will be the next real rockstar. They are still growing but they have some very cool things going on. Of course, the event page for me is crucial but one of the cool things that they do is send two separate reminders to your invited guests, the first is one day prior and the second is an hour before the event. These reminders are automatic. Secondly, they have upped the game with “Hangouts”. This is a service that allows multiple people in different locations to video conference/chat. Again, they are still growing but once G+ catches on… Look out!

Instagram, I love you. Take a picture and share it. It doesn’t get any more simpler than that and looking at the stuff that people take is hilarious!!! I’ve seen about 30 pictures of woman with puckered lips; about 50 inspirational messages; and at least 25 guys just taking a picture of themselves’ looking at the camera with NO expression and all of these pictures have been posted within the last 36 hours!!! What’s cool is that, believe it or not, Instagram is art. People share what is interesting to them… “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and that’s why I love it!!

Twitter is cool but it’s not necessarily MY favorite. The reason that it’s not my favorite is because I’m a writer and a bit of a grammarian. So, getting your point across in 140 characters or less isn’t really my cup o’ tea. Plus, ALL of the abbreviations!!!! I can’t stand it!!! I need a freakin’ translator to read some of these posts!!! But, you can’t ignore Twitter because this is the direction that many are headed, unfortunately. Short blasts of gobbledy-gook…

Pinterest… I really haven’t caught on to this one yet. I made my first posts here this past week. Someone ‘re-pinned’ one of the pictures but I can’t really same much about it. I do know that they made the news because of the communities on there but I don’t see the big deal yet…

Socialcam and YouTube… These guys are WONDERFUL!!! I love them both. Socialcam is primarily people taking videos wherever they are, doing whatever they do and sharing it (like Instagram only with video). YouTube is the same except they’ve gotten all corporate on us. Instead of it just being regular people we get videos from businesses, corporations and we have to deal with copyright issues. The problem that I have with YouTube is COMMERCIALS!!!!! I don’t watch commercials on TV. Why in the (censored) do you think I’m going to watch commercials on a two-minute video? The Skip button is nice but now they’re even leaving that out!!!

All in all, I have a very interesting morning… I’m beat!!! I’m gonna try to get a few more winks before preparing for church, Good night… or is it Good Morning…

I love you ALL!!!
Stay Blessed,
